Holden Grounds allowed one hit and had seven strikeouts in three innings, setting the tone as the Corsicana Blue Pony League All-Stars beat Denison, 14-0, in five innings in an opening round game of the West Region Pony League Tournament.
The 14-and-under Blue All-Stars will play Wednesday night at 8:30 p.m. in Rowlett against Irving Blue, which demolished Rowlett, 27-2. The winner will advance to the championship game on Friday, while the loser will have to play an elimination game Thursday.
Hard-throwing Donovan Fields pitched the final two innings, striking out four while not allowing a hit.
The leading hitters for the Blue All-Stars were: Karsen Minniear, 4-for-4 with four runs; Zane Otten, 3-for-4 with two runs; Heath Donica, 2-for-2 with three runs and Holden Grounds, 2-for-3 with a run.
