Sam Harrell reveals that he has MS

We had been hearing whispers concerning Ennis football coach Sam Harrell's health, and it was revealed today by Harrell to Brandon George of The Dallas Morning News that he was diagnosed multiple sclerosis four years ago.

Harrell told The News' that he felt like he needed to address his health with his family, coaches and players because it has progressively worsened.

We wish Harrell and his family the best.

Iowa high school football coach fatally shot.

I'm on vacation this week (thanks to Raymond for filling in).

But I did have to post this story from this morning on Iowa high school football coach Ed Thomas being fatally shot.

Scary, scary.

Brings up memories of Gary Joe Kinne, who was fortunate enough to survive.

With Texas baseball, it's never over

Trying to listen to the bottom of the ninth inning of the Texas-Arizona State game on a station out of Omaha goes down as one of the most agonizing experiences ever.

But I was able to hear through the static the back-to-back home runs that Cameron Rupp and Connor Rowe hit to lift Texas to an improbable victory.

This is a typical Augie Garrido team. His teams bunt and bunt and bunt 'til they actually have to swing the bats, as Alan Trubow of the Austin American-Statesman tells us.

Credit ex-Navarro coach and now UT pitching coach Skip Johnson for having a young pitching staff ready to go against a very Good Sun Devils team.

Real beginning

I'll crank up the Daily Sun's new sports blog tomorrow.

But we'll start things off with a pressing question: What to do about Chris Davis?

I still say the Rangers have no alternative but to stick it out with Chris at this point. What say you?
